Hendersonville installs public bench as part of Walk Wise, Drive Smart walking route

(Hendersonville, 1/2/09) — On Friday, January 2, 2009, a crew from the City of Hendersonville Public Works Department installed a bench on Fourth Avenue West donated by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Elliot as part of the Walk Wise, Drive Smart Sammy Williams/Downtown neighborhood walking route. The walking route was designated by the Council on Aging for Henderson County in partnership with the Highway Safety Research Center at UNC-Chapel Hill and the City of Hendersonville to promote safer walking for older adults in the city. Benches along the route will allow older adults more opportunities for resting when walking in the downtown area. The benches will be located at the corner of Third Avenue West and Oak Street, and in front of the apartment building at 610 Fourth Avenue West.
